Using their E&D Policy as a starting point, we developed a course for staff and council members to refresh the diversity agenda, and recognise their responsibilities under the Equality Act.
Preparing course content
Having spent time with staff, listening to their experiences and stories, we were able to tailor drama-based scenarios and interactive sessions that mirrored the current reality for delegates. The mix of council members and officers, enabled us explore a diverse range of views and perspectives in a safe open environment.
Using electronic voting technology a series of behavioural and attitudinal questions were explored. This allowed delegates to reflect on their own views, examine anonymously whether these views were in line with others and discuss ways of shifting attitudes that may negatively impact on the council and the service it provides.
