Leadership development – Early years workforce

Over the past 3 years, we have developed a programme of one day modules inspired by the need to provide the early years workforce with the management and leadership skills to raise standards and improve outcomes for children. They were designed to explore and develop the hands on skills and tools not provided by sector endorsed foundation degrees that are vital to raising the quality of leadership and management.

Essex County Council ran a series of events for their settings. Following this successful we were asked to participate in a number of Early Years Professionals conferences for Practitioners and Managers working in Nursery Settings.

The event

One conference was entitled Babies: Building Resilient Toddlers. We helped shape the organisation and management of the day. By providing a compere we were able to gauge the right pitch and tone of the event, link each session seamlessly, introduce key speakers and run a Q&A session drawing on the learning from the whole day.

We used our audience response technology to gather anonymous views from all participants, providing an instant insight into how people were reacting and feeling, and use this instant data to inform future discussions and ensure inclusivity. Questions were also asked for evaluation purposes, which enabled us to capture feedback from 100% of the participants.

The compere’s experience of the Early Years workforce and hands-on approach allowed immediate problem-solving throughout the day.
