Stop Bullying Now

With increased pressure on resources, and anxiety over future changes in the workplace, the potential for bullying and harassment will undoubtedly increase. This coupled with a climate of 'not making a fuss' for fear of influencing job prospects, can create a ticking time bomb, manifesting in higher absenteeism, poor staff survey results and increasing industrial tribunals.

The abuse of power can cause stress and anxiety in the work place resulting in reduced staff morale and poor performance. This also impacts on customer service. A recent survey shows that one in five UK workers have faced bullying in the past two years. The number of work days lost through stress and potential mental health issues as a direct result of bullying equates to millions of pounds...

We have developed a range of high impact training events blending a number of creative techniques, which:

  • Examine the effect that bullying behaviour has within the workplace
  • Discuss the impact on an organisation's culture
  • Explore how leadership styles influence people's perceptions of appropriate behaviour
  • Recognise bullying behaviour in all its forms
  • Look at reasons behind bullying and the effects
  • Present strategies to address and manage inappropriate behaviour
  • Highlight the line between performance management and bullying behaviour
  • Promote positive communication and finding a voice

A specially researched piece of theatre, The Monarch, The Peacock and the Chequered Skipper by Amanda Osborne presents a realistic window into the challenges staff face when bullying behaviour is present. The play was written as a tool to raise awareness of genuine issues which are then explored in facilitated workshops. The emphasis is on enabling staff to find their own solutions to addressing bullying behaviour in the workplace.

The play was an excellent way of dealing with a difficult topic. In a unique way, it raised awareness of behaviours which could be perceived as bullying, and brought these to life for the audience. In terms of content it was well researched, realistic, and recognisable. All in all, much food for thought, and an impetus for dealing with the topic back at the office.
